Money tips
- UPI works in Srinagar and most hotels; carry cash for shikaras, ponies, union taxis and small shops in Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
- Shikara, pony, sledge and union-taxi rates are fixed by the tourism department or local associations; ask to see the rate card before you agree.
- Houseboats are graded by category (deluxe down to D class); meals are often included, so confirm what the rate covers.
- In Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg, local sightseeing must use the resort's own taxi union; your Srinagar car drops you in town.
